Statistics

The information compiled below is based on how housing was selected in 2011 and previous years.  In 2011, we tracked when specific housing ran out.  When reviewing this information, be aware that many variables change each year including designations and class size, and the order that housing is selected and completely taken varies from year to year.  We have compiled here are some numbers/facts that you may find helpful. Please keep in mind Community Living holds a limited number of rooms off from Room Selection to accommodate student needs as well.

In previous years rising sophomores generally chose quads in the following order:

1. Castle Suites & Rosenthal
2. 567 South Street
3. Village rooms
4. East Pull-ins
5. East rooms
6. Castle rooms
7. North/Massell Singles

In Rosenthal all eight-person suites are divided into 2 four-person suites.   42 spaces are available in Rosenthal for students to select.  6 suites are available in the Castle.  In 2011, Castle suites ran out first at #44, followed by Rosenthal at #73.  In past years, Rosenthal has run out before Castle Suites.

In 2011, 567 South Street was the second quad to run out of space.  In past years, 567 South Street was selected toward the end of room selection.  There are 14 apartments (28 beds) available in 567 South Street.  As a meal plan is not required in 567 South Street, some students may choose it in order to be more independent but still remain close to campus and receive the benefits of on-campus housing.  Two-bedroom apartments in 567 ran out at #102, and efficiency apartments ran out at #135.

This year, Village A House and a floor in C House are available for sophomores.   Approximately 100 beds are available for sophomores in the Village.  Neighborhood pull-ins are allowed for the Village, and these spaces in were selected fairly quickly.  All neighbor pull-ins were done by #43, with the Village running out at #162.

In Hassenfeld (East) there are 158 rooms total. There are roughly 100 rooms available for pull-ins. This number can change based on whether people pull into nearby doubles or nearby singles or not at all.  There will be other rooms available in Hassenfeld but without a pull-in option, and there are also another 102 rooms available in Pomerantz.  East Hassenfeld neighbor pull-ins ran out at #178.  All East singles ran out at #663.  Some spaces in East doubles on single gender floors remained at the end of room selection.

At this point some people will start going to the Castle if they haven't done so already. There are 6 suites, 2 triples, 21 doubles, and 50 singles available in the Castle (79 rooms total).  Castle suites are both three-person and four-person suites.  Castle doubles ran out at #289.  All Castle rooms were selected by #663.

There are about 50 singles available in North and about 20 singles in Massell. Students who prefer single rooms may prefer the rooms in North, as they are close to many campus resources and close to other sophomores living in East and the Castle.  Massell singles are also close to Rosenthal, Sherman, and the Shapiro Campus Center.  Massell singles ran out at #777.  A small number of North singles in single-gender floors remained at the end of room selection.

Rising sophomores are guaranteed on-campus housing.

In previous years Upperclassmen generally chose quads in the following order:

1. Ridgewood Apartments
2. Foster Mods
3. Ziv
4. Charles River

As the newest quad on-campus, Ridgewood apartments are selected very quickly.  There are 4 six-person apartments and 33 four-person apartments.  Ridgewood six-person apartments ran out at #1007, and four-person apartments ran out at #1049.

In the past, seniors tended to select the Mods very quickly.  There are 21 six-person townhouses and 12 four-person townhouses available for selection.  Six-person Mods ran out at #1129, and four-person mods ran out at #1163.

42 suites in Ziv are available for selection.  All Ziv suites are six-person suites.  2 additional suites can be selected as single rooms (both mixed-gender).  These suites will provide an additional 12 rooms that can be selected as singles.  Students selecting rooms in these suites will not be able to pull-in other students.  Ziv suites ran out at #1222.  The single rooms were some of the last rooms remaining at room selection.

Charles River is typically the last area selected during room selection, but many students view it as a hidden gem.  Charles River provides 15 five-person apartments, 11 three-person apartments, 60 two-bedroom apartments, and 12 single room efficiencies.  Five-person and three-person apartments must be completely filled when selected, but rooms in two-bedroom apartments may be selected individually.  Charles River was also renovated in the summer of 2010.  Due to the positive reviews of these renovations, we expect more students to select Charles River earlier than they have in past years.  Three-person apartments ran out before Ziv suites at #1187.  Five-bedrooms were next at #1254, and then single efficiencies at #1550.  Two-bedroom apartments were the last housing selected.

All students who apply to study abroad and sign-up for room selection will be assigned a regular room selection number.  With these students being assigned numbers, many junior and senior numbers will be inactive during regular room selection.  Last year many students were surprised by the housing options still available when their number was called.  Even if your number appears to be high, it's a good idea to have a plan for your first choice regardless (along with a few back up plans), as you never know what will be available when your number is called.

It is incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to predict what will happen at room selection this year.  However, that does not mean anyone should panic or be stressed out.  There are approximately 1200 beds for juniors and seniors, which accommodates about three quarters of all juniors and seniors.  Although housing is not guaranteed for juniors and seniors, all juniors and seniors who request to live on-campus can receive on-campus housing.  Students who do not receive housing during room selection have a very decent chance of receiving housing through the wait list.  For the last three years, all students on the wait list were offered on-campus housing.

If you are thinking about living off-campus, check out the off-campus housing section of our website as well.  Information on listings and conducting your off-campus housing search can be found there.
