Summer housing is available for current Brandeis students who are working on-campus for the summer. This page contains helpful information regarding the summer housing process, transitional housing, and summer housing policies.
For the summer of 2009, students will be housed in the Foster Mods. Students can start living in summer housing on May 26, 2009, and can stay as late as August 7, 2009. The rate for summer housing is $126.00/week. There is no prorating. Students staying from May 26 through August 7 will be charged for 11 weeks of housing.
Students enrolled in Brandeis Summer School who wish to live on-campus must obtain housing through the Summer School. Information regarding Summer School housing is available here.
If you have any questions, you can email the Department of Residence Life at reslife@brandeis.edu or call at 781-736-5060.
Housing Eligibility
Students must meet the following requirements in order to receive summer housing on-campus through the Department of Residence Life.
- Full-time undergraduate student at Brandeis for the spring 2009 semester and the fall 2009 semester. Students graduating in spring 2009 are not eligible for on-campus housing.
- Be employed by a Brandeis department at least part-time. Only students working on-campus can receive on-campus housing in the Mods.
- Receive permission from your employer to live on-campus for the summer. Students should confirm summer employment with a supervisor before completing the summer housing application, as not all departments can support students living on-campus.
Summer Housing Process
Obtaining summer housing is a fairly simple process. Below are the steps that students, faculty, and staff must take in order for students to receive summer housing.
Step 1: Apply
Complete the Summer Housing Application. The application is an electronic form and will be available starting March 23. Forms must be submitted by April 17 to guarantee summer placement.Step 2: Department Follow-up
Following completion of the application, an email will be sent to your department's administrator containing the information submitted on the application. The administrator must then verify with the Department of Residence Life that the you are employed by the department and submit the department's chart string to Residence Life.Step 3: Transitional Housing, Part I
If you wish to live on-campus between the end of final exams and the beginning of the summer, you must complete the Transitional Housing Request form (available March 23). Transitional Housing costs a flat rate of $200. Your student account will be billed directly for transitional housing. See the Transitional Housing section below for more information.Step 4: Move-In
Students will be notified of their summer residence by May 1. Keys for summer housing will be available for pick up by May 26 from the Department of Residence Life in Usdan. You will be notified if keys are available earlier than May 26.Step 5: Transitional Housing, Part II
At the end of the summer, you will have the option again to request transitional housing. If you did not request summer to fall transitional housing originally, a new Transitional Housing Request must be completed. The cost of transitional housing for this period is $200. See the Transitional Housing section below for more information.Step 6: Pay Day
At the end of the summer, the Department of Residence Life will bill the student's department for housing expenses. It is up to the individual department whether to collect reimbursement or not.Transitional Housing
Transitional housing is offered for students who are moving from spring on-campus housing to summer on-campus housing and from summer on-campus housing to fall on-campus housing. We recognize that it can be difficult for some students to travel to and from home over short periods of time during the summer. Transitional housing allows students to transition from spring housing to summer housing and from summer housing to fall housing without leaving campus. Transitional housing is NOT available for students moving from on-campus to off-campus housing or from off-campus to on-campus housing.
The Transitional Housing Request form can be submitted online. Once the form is submitted, the Department of Residence Life will add the student to the transitional housing list.
The cost for transitional housing is $200 for each transitional period. The Department of Residence Life will bill the student's account directly for transitional housing. For the spring to summer, transitional housing begins Monday, May 11 and runs to May 26. For summer to fall, transitional housing begins August 8 and runs to August 25.
Transitional housing is NOT a storage option. Students who are granted transitional housing are expected to be on-campus for the entirety of the period. Spaces may be available at any point, and students may be able to move into their summer or fall spaces early. Students in transitional housing must be prepared to move within 24 hours of notice. Students living in spring transitional housing should be prepared to move into their summer assignment early on Friday, May 22.
For spring to summer, students may be assigned to temporary spaces for transitional housing. For summer to fall, students will move into their fall assignments for transitional housing (so long as the assignment is available).
