Flu Tips

Symptoms of the flu include:

  • Fever (101° – 104°), lasting 3 – 5 days
  • Headache, severe muscle and joint aches
  • Sore throat
  • Tiredness, can be extreme and last 2 weeks or more
  • Dry cough
  • Runny or stuffy nose

What to do if you have flu symptoms:

  • Rest in bed
  • Drink lots of fluids (water or juice)
  • Take non-aspirin pain relievers to reduce fever and pain (Never give aspirin to children or teens with fever - they can get a serious disease called Reye syndrome.)
  • Stay home and avoid public activities for at least 5 days (7 days for children), so that you don’t pass the flu to other people

Flu Update 10-2

This past week has seen a decrease in the total number of active cases of the flu but we continue to have a substantial number of new cases. Your continued efforts at hand sanitizing, keeping your hands away from your face and covering your coughs remain important. The campus has many new sanitizer dispensers to help you in this effort.

It has just been announced that flu vaccine delivery will be delayed for both seasonal and H1N1 flu. We are prepared to hold our planned flu clinics as soon as these vaccines arrive.

We will be having a limited flu clinic of seasonal flu vaccinations next week for higher risk students—those with asthma, diabetes, who are immunosuppressed or chronically ill.  Students should watch for emails announcing this clinic.

We again express our appreciation for the efforts of all those on campus working to minimize the spread of flu and support those students who become ill.
