Fire Safety

  • Covering smoke detectors is a deadly practice. Consequences include, but are not limited to, residence probation and $150 fines.
  • Careless cooking causes 72 percent of residence hall fires.
  • Toaster ovens and Foreman grills are not permitted in residence hall rooms.
  • All campus buildings are smoke-free.
  • If you wish to light candles for religious purposes, you must pick up a form from Community Living or Hillel.
  • Periodic fire safety inspections of residence halls will continue this semester.
  • Check out section 9.5 of Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Talk to your roommates, look around your room and be smart about fire safety.
  • Check out the Environmental Health and Safety Web site.

Theft Alert

A number of students have been reported for shoplifting from the P.O.D. convenience store in Usdan.

This behavior is counter to our core values of citizenship, integrity, respect and civility at Brandeis. Theft and attempted theft are a violation of section 6.2 of Rights and Responsibilities. Please remind fellow community members of who we are, and what we stand for at Brandeis.

Welcome

Student Rights and Community Standards offers students educational opportunities for personal growth, and values clarification. Our aim is to educate the campus about issues central to the mission of the institution, and to react to inappropriate behavior in a fair and responsive manner. The SRCS staff provides education and outreach efforts regarding alcohol and other drug use, student involvement on campus, academic integrity, and leadership development.

The student conduct system is based on established expectations and standards of behavior at Brandeis as described in Rights and Responsibilities, and also relies on a peer judgment model. At the heart of this process is the University Board on Student Conduct, a student, faculty and staff panel that hears select cases of alleged student misconduct.

Rights and Responsibilities Feedback

We want your opinions, ideas, concerns, and feedback. Confused about academic integrity expectations? Have an idea about how drug and alcohol use can be addressed? Do you think any of the policies are just plain wrong?

Take a look at Rights and Responsibilities in your student handbook or on this Web site, and e-mail your feedback to Dean Gendron, director of student rights and community standards, at gendron@brandeis.edu.
