Mission
The Department of Student Activities is committed to enhancing the student experience outside the classroom; supporting University recognized clubs and organizations; and encouraging creative learning and leadership development.
How does Student Activities…
Enhance the student experience?
- Provide regular, consistent social opportunities such as Stein Nights, Campus Center Team programs, Game room programs, tickets to off campus opportunities and co-sponsorship initiatives with other departments.
- Providing flagship programs: Welcome Week, Fall Fest Weekend (Family Weekend), Winter Week, and the SunDeis Film Festival and the Junior/Senior Formal.
- Work with student clubs and organizations to maintain a full, active social calendar for students that offer a wide variety of programs including but not limited to, lectures, fundraisers, parties, concerts, and talent showcases.
- Manage the Shapiro Campus Center and the Usdan Student Center Info Center and Game room to provide facilities for students to socialize, study, work, and gather.
- Support commercial initiatives such as Cholmondeley’s Coffeehouse (Usen Castle) and the Student Service Bureau (Usdan Game room) to enhance the community.
Support University recognized clubs and organizations?
- Providing direct advising support to: Student Events, Student Production Services, the Campus Center Team, the Undergraduate Theater Collective, and others as needed.
- Creating and maintaining resources such as the Leadership and Resource Handbook, Quick Tips, Sonic Bids library, and other online resources including but not limited to an online event planning website.
- Oversee the weekly One Stop Event Planning initiative which assists students in working with other administrative offices.
- Provide tangible resources such as audio visual equipment, staging, sound equipment and other items to student organizations to decrease the cost to those organizations.
- Aiding in communication between administration, student clubs and organizations.
- Assisting in the coordination of a comprehensive student life calendar including the approval of the my.brandeis.edu/calendar entries.
- Offering guidance and service to student organizations as necessary or requested.
- Working with the Student Union, our student government, in their initiatives to affect change for the student body.
- Maintain the office oversight for clubs and organizations including keys or card access, distribution, and other operational items. Assist student in personal and organizational storage needs including but not limited to commuter lockers, club lockers, and East Quad Storage.
Encourage creative learning and leadership development?
- Coordinating Take the Lead, an umbrella leadership development initiative that includes educational workshops, resources for development, networking opportunities for club leaders and leadership development events.
- Working with students to create initiatives that provides developmental moments based on student need.
