Areas of Worship

Jewish prayer services take place at Berlin Chapel, Brandeis’ Jewish chapel, and at several other locations across campus. The Beit Midrash in Shapiro Residence Hall is always open for lively Jewish learning.

Inside the Berlin Chapel

The Jewish community is served by Rabbi Elyse Winick '86 and by Hillel at Brandeis.

Rabbi Winick is available to students for religious study and spiritual and pastoral counseling. She supports the various Jewish religious groups at Brandeis and is on campus for most Sabbaths and holidays.  Rabbi Winick works in close partnership with the Multifaith Chaplaincy team, ensuring that spiritual and religious needs are met for all members of the campus community.

Hillel at Brandeis provides a rich and vibrant Jewish life at the university through programs that address the varied spiritual, educational social and political needs and interests of students.  Hillel coordinates more than 20 affiliated Jewish student groups.

Hillel’s Interim Executive Director is Sam Mendales, who is also the Executive Director of the Hillel Council of New England.  Cindy Spungin serves as Hillel's Associate Director.  Harry Abrahams is Hillel's Jewish Student Life Associate.  Rabbi David and Ariel Pardo serve as the Co-Directors of the Seif OU-Jewish Learning Initiative on campus.

Hillel is located on the second level of the Usdan Student Center, above the chaplains’ offices.
