Who is eligible for the on-campus housing program administered by the Summer School?
Occupancy is open to students enrolled in one or both Brandeis University's two five-week summer sessions or in one of the Summer School's special programs. Spaces are limited and are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note: Current High School Students are allowed to take select courses as commuters only. Students who have graduated High School may live in Summer School Housing.
What are summer accommodations?
Summer School students are housed in "The Village" Residence Hall, Tower A (L30 on the Brandeis Campus Map) The Village is one of the newest housing complexes at Brandeis.
This air-conditioned building houses students in private single rooms with several shared single-sex restrooms/showers on each floor. Student rooms are furnished with a bed, mattress, desk, and bureau. Personal essentials like bed linens (twin extra long), blankets, pillows, towels, waste baskets, alarm clocks, desk lamps, etc. are not provided. A shower caddy, shower shoes and bathrobe are also recommended.
On each floor of the Village there is a large common area lounge and a communal kitchenette. Because the Village has modest communal kitchen space, participation in a meal plan is mandatory for students choosing to live in Summer School on-campus housing. Your application for Summer School Housing will be considered complete only when you have submitted a signed meal plan contract.
In addition to this large common area there are also smaller lounges for studying and student use on each floor. These shared lounge areas are furnished with a random assortment of tables, sofas and chairs. Coin operated laundry facilities can be found on the first floor. The building is elevator-equipped.
What are the Summer 2009 dates of occupancy?
The dates of occupance for Summer 2009 are:
Session I - Friday, May 29 at noon to Friday, July 3 at 5:00 pm
Session II - Sunday, July 5 at noon to Friday, August 7 at 5:00 pm
Session I & II - Friday, May 29 at noon to Friday, August 7 at 5:00 pm - Students staying for Session I and Session II do not need to vacate housing during the weekend between session.
These are firm deadlines (see below).
Transitional Housing for before and after Summer Session: In order to adequately prepare University facilities for summer and fall occupancy, all campus facilities are closed before and after the dates and times posted. Students are responsible for locating their own off-campus accommodations and storage before and after Summer Housing occupancy. Brandeis Students requiring on-campus accommodations either before or after Summer Housing opens should contact the Brandeis Office of Residence Life to arrange "Transitional Housing"
All summer students must vacate Summer School Housing by 5:00 pm on August 7, 2009:
Annual maintenance performed on the University's electrical systems necessitates a complete, campus-wide, power shut-down beginning on the evening of August 7. This project renders alarm systems and emergency lighting inoperative. The resulting safety issues make it impossible to extended students' stays in summer accommodations on campus beyond 5:00 pm on August 7. Please plan accordingly.
How do I apply?
Submit a paper housing and dining registration forms by May 15 for Session I and June 19 for Session II directly to the Summer School Office - MS 085. How will I find out my housing assignment?
All students who apply by the deadlines above are guaranteed accommodations. All Summer Students housed in the Village will be assigned a private single room. The Summer School generally does not have sufficient time or staff to advise students of specific room assignments. You will learn your housing assignment when you arrive on-campus.
Do I have to sign up for a meal plan?
Yes. A meal plan is required for all students who choose to live in Summer School Housing as there are very limited communal kitchen facilities in the Village Residence Hall. Dining Services can accommodate various dietary needs such as special diets or food allergies. Students who do not want to have a meal plan may want to consider other summer housing arrangements.

Who do I contact if my plans change?
We ask that you contact the Summer School Office as soon as possible if your plans should change. Because of the limited number of rooms available, we would like to serve students who are on our waiting list.
Should your plans change, notification to the Summer School Office should be in writing so your account may be appropriately credited.
How do I arrange for telephone and Internet service in my room?
The proliferation of cell phone use has made requesting a phone in your dorm room fully optional. The University has a new IP (Internet Protocol) phone system which requires the use of telephone instruments unavailable to the consumer. Standard service includes free on-campus, local calling, toll-free access and voice mail. Long distance service will require the use of a prepaid or toll-free calling card. If you are a new student and would like an IP telephone for your room, there is a $50.00 per session rental fee for the telephone instrument.
Every dormitory room is equipped at no charge with access the Internet. You are responsible for providing your own computer and wireless card or computer and Ethernet cable so that you may connect to the Brandeis Network. The Library & Technology Services website provides the best information on how to be sure your computer is compatible with the University's network. Visit them at: the LTS Website.
