Who is eligible for the on-campus housing program administered by the Summer School?
Occupancy is open to students enrolled in one or both Brandeis University's two five-week summer sessions or in one of the Summer School's special programs. Spaces are limited and are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note: Current High School Students are allowed to take select courses as commuters only. Students who have graduated High School may live in Summer School Housing.
What are summer accommodations?
Summer students are housed in Ziv Quad, Building 129 in single, air-conditioned rooms. For those new to Brandeis during the summer, Ziv Quad has a suite-style design. Six students housed in individual bedrooms share two bathrooms and a large common room. Because of the limited number of suites available to us for the summer, all suites are designated as single gender.
Applicants should note that they will need to provide their own bedding (twin extra long), towels, and linens. As Ziv is not equipped with kitchen facilities, participation in a meal plan is mandatory for students electing to reside in Summer School on-campus housing. Your application will be considered complete only when you have submitted a completed meal plan form.
The University IP (Internet Protocol) telephone system requires the use of telephone instruments that are not available to consumers. If you are a Brandeis student during the academic year, you should be aware that you will need the telephone instrument provided for your by the Telecommunications Office. New students may rent a telephone instrument for $25.00 per session from the Summer School Office.
What are the dates of occupancy? Session I - Friday, May 30 at noon to Thursday, July 3 at 5:00 pm Session II - Sunday, July 6 at noon to Friday, August 8 at 5:00 pm Session I & II - Friday, May 30 at noon to Friday, August 8 at 5:00 pm
Important Notes about Summer Occupancy:
In order to adequately prepare University facilities for summer and fall occupancy, all campus facilities are closed before and after the dates and times posted. Students are responsible for locating their own off-campus accommodations before and after Summer Program occupancy.
Annual maintenance performed on the University's electrical systems necessitates a complete, campus-wide, power shut-down beginning on the evening of August 8. This project renders alarm systems and emergency lighting inoperative. The resulting safety issues make it impossible to extended students' stays in summer accommodations on campus beyond 5:00 pm on August 8. Please plan accordingly.
How do I apply?
Submit a paper housing and dining registration forms by May 9 for Session I and June 13 for Session II directly to the Summer School Office - MS 085. Click the following links to view PDF files you may print out for Summer Housing and Dining. Full payment for your accommodations, made payable to "Brandeis University", will be required before the housing deadlines for each session.
How will I find out my housing assignment?
All students who apply by the deadlines above are guaranteed accommodations. All Ziv rooms are singles and all suites are single gender. The Summer School generally does not have sufficient time or staff to advise students of specific room assignments. You will learn your housing assignment when you arrive on-campus.
Do I have to sign up for a meal plan? Yes - a meal plan is required for all students who choose to live in Summer School Housing as there are no kitchen facilities in the suites in Ziv. Dining Services can accommodate various dietary needs such as special diets or food allergies. Students who do not want to have a meal plan may want to consider other summer housing arrangements.
How much does Summer Housing and Dining cost? The charge for summer accommodations is $850 per five-week session. In addition, participation in the mandatory meal plan will result in the charges below.

For most of Session I and the last two weeks of Session II, dining numbers require that meals be served buffet style. If you find that specific foods are not available during the buffet dining period, please advise the Dining Services Managers. Every reasonable effort will be made to accommodate your requests. During this period, Dining Services will offer theme nights, move dinner up into the Stein, and offer BBQ's as weather permits, to make your experience more enjoyable. As an example, the first meal of Session I on Sunday, June 1, is a Pizza Party in the Stein.

Please call or visit the Summer School or e-mail us at summerschool@brandeis.edu and we would be happy to answer any further questions you may have.
Who do I contact if my plans change? We ask that you contact the Summer School Office as soon as possible if your plans should change. Because of the limited number of rooms available, we would like to serve students who are on our waiting list.
Should your plans change, notification to the Summer School Office should be in writing so your account may be appropriately credited.
How do I arrange for telephone and computer services in my room? The proliferation of cell phone use has made requesting a phone in your dorm room fully optional. The University has a new IP (Internet Protocol) phone system which requires the use of telephone instruments unavailable to the consumer. Standard service includes free on-campus, local calling, toll-free access and voice mail. Long distance service will require the use of a prepaid or toll-free calling card. If you are a new student and would like an IP telephone for your room, there is a $25.00 per session rental fee for the telephone instrument.
Every dormitory room is equipped at no charge with access the World Wide Web. You are responsible for providing your own Ethernet cable so that you may connect to the Brandeis Network. The Library & Technology Services website provides the best information on how to be sure your computer is compatible with the University's network. Visit them at: the LTS Website.
