Summer Session I: June 1 - July 3, 2009 Prerequisite: MATH 10a. This course is a basic introduction to the methods of statistics and the mathematical analysis applied to problems in the life sciences. Topics include statistical analysis of experimental data, mathematical description of chemical reactions, and mathematical models in neuroscience, population biology, and epidemiology. Summer Session II: July 6 - August 7, 2009 This course will cover the following topics: discrete probability spaces; random variables; expectation; variance; approximation by the normal curve; sample mean and variance; and confidence intervals.
