What are the accommodations for Hebrew Language Institute participants?
Ziv is one of the newest housing complexes on campus and is the only one with air-conditioning. Designed in suite-style, each enclave houses six individuals in single rooms with two shared showers and two shared "commode" rooms as well as a lounge area. Each single room is furnished with bed, desk, and bureau. Linens, blankets, pillows, towels, waste receptacles, and desk lamps are not provided. The lounges in each suite are furnished with a random assortment of tables, sofas and chairs. There are three such suites per floor and four floors in Ziv 127. The building is elevator-equipped. Please be aware that the university is in the process of constructing a new residence hall nearby Ziv Quad. The construction team is aware of the needs of the students and the university and has reasonably tried to accommodate these needs.

If you wish to ship items in advance of your arrival, we will do our best to have them in your rooms by the close of business on Friday, May 30. Details on shipping items and receiving mail while at the Institute will be provided in the confirmation package once you have submitted a housing application.

Dates of Occupancy
Friday, May 30, at noon to Friday, June 27, at 5:00 pm

How do I apply for housing?
Complete and return the appropriate housing application form. If you have indicated that you were expecting to be housed on-campus, but have not submitted the housing and dining applications, forms may be found here. Please note: if you elect to live in University housing for the program, you are required to sign up for a meal plan.

What are the housing costs?
The charge for summer accommodations is $700 for the four-weeks of the program. Participation in a meal plan is mandatory and will result in the additional charges identified below.

What are the options for summer dining?
The dining facility in use for the summer is Sherman Hall. Recently renovated, Sherman is unique in that it houses both the kosher and non-kosher kitchens and service areas. To make kosher service possible, special rules are posted and the Sherman staff is trained to intervene and offer correction should diners deviate from those rules. You're asked to commit to one type of meal plan and stick with it throughout the program. All diners are expected to cooperate and observe the simple rules that make it possible for everyone to dine together.

Students may elect a plan that permits them to choose any 14 meals per week or one that provides three meals a day, seven days a week. A housing application is considered complete only when a signed meal contract has been submitted.

Meal Plans
14-Meal Plan $650
21-Meal Plan $900

How do I arrange for telephone and computer services in my room?
The proliferation of cell phone use has made requesting a phone in your dorm room fully optional. The University has a new IP (Internet Protocol) phone system which requires the use of telephone instruments unavailable to the consumer. If you would like a telephone in your room, there is a $25 rental fee for the instrument itself. Standard service includes free on-campus, local calling, toll-free access and voice mail. Long distance service will require the use of a prepaid or toll-free calling card.

Every dormitory room is equipped at no charge with access the World Wide Web. You are responsible for providing your own computer and Ethernet cable so that you may connect to the Brandeis Network. The Information Technology Services website provides the best information on how to be sure your computer is compatible with the University's network. Visit them at the ITS Website.
