Midyear Students

Student Photo

As midyear students (students scheduled to begin their Brandeis career with a Spring semester) have moved through their academic careers, Brandeis has listened intently to what they had to say and we've acted on what students have shared.

One of the hurdles midyear students face is the scheduling asynchrony in taking premedical science classes. Some students feel they're too far behind if they have to wait until the Fall Term after the arrive to begin the premed sequence; others, who take the first semester of general chemistry near home, are finding that what they learn isn't preparing them well enough for the Spring Term continuation of general chemistry at Brandeis.

Students, faculty and academic advisors alike have recognized the issue but have struggled to find an answer... until now!

After a successful trial in Summer 2008, we are pleased to once again offer incoming midyear students the opportunity to enroll in first semester general chemistry taught the Brandeis way. We will offer the first semester of general chemistry in the second five-week session of the Brandeis Summer School from July 6 to August 7. You'll be taught by a top-rated instructor using the same textbook, protocols and experiments as Brandeis's Fall Term general chemistry class. And you won't have to miss any of the ceremonies and celebrations of your high school graduation.

You'll live with fellow midyears and current Brandeis students, have staff and tutors available outside of class hours, and have an opportunity to learn valuable skills to enhance your academic success... all while getting to know the Brandeis University campus and explore Greater Boston.

If you are committed to pursuing an advanced degree in medicine or dentistry, this program offers you many advantages!

  • Learn general chemistry the Brandeis way.
  • Get to know your classmates and the campus.
  • Meet key advisors and staff.
  • Take workshops that can help you succeed.
  • Ease your transition to a challenging academic atmosphere.
