Response to Guidance from DOE on Sexual Misconduct

Dear Members of the Brandeis Community,

In the wake of the latest interim guidance on campus sexual misconduct issued by the Department of Education, I want to assure our community that our commitment to preventing, reducing, and ultimately eliminating sexual misconduct on our campus remains unwavering and unchanged.

Over the past several years, our campus community has collaborated on achieving those goals.  Many new resources, including the Office of Prevention Services and the Rape Crisis Center, are available to support community members. We also aggressively expanded active bystander and other forms of training, and will continue to do so.

A campus-wide task force of students, faculty and staff meets regularly to review our efforts. They work closely with administrators to develop best practices in our student judicial process for sexual misconduct, providing fair and equitable treatment to all participants in alignment with our institutional values, and in compliance with state and national policies.

The university prohibits all forms of sexual misconduct (including sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic/dating violence and stalking) and takes reports of such misconduct very seriously. We will continue to use investigative processes that demonstrate the highest standards of fairness and accountability.

We remain resolutely committed to freeing our campus from sexual violence, discrimination, and harassment and to honoring our founding principles of equity, justice, and inclusivity throughout our community.

Sincerely,

Andrew Flagel
Senior Vice President for Students and Enrollment
