"I came to Brandeis without a career path in mind, but I'll be leaving knowing exactly what I want to do. And it's all because of LaCE! It's really changed my life." ~Anne Blackstock-Bernstein '09
"Volunteering can be difficult. That's the nature of it sometimes. Despite those inevitable challenges, there is always something the individual both gives and gains that's bigger than themselves. The exchange for me seems so fluid and natural. The exchange is what makes it worth it" ~ Anastazyia Vareschi '09
"Participating in Community Service activities and Volunteer Vacations has forced me to realize that the day to day conflicts and inconveniences that I experience are so insignificant and so selfish; its not only been a way to be a responsible citizen, but also a way for me to emerge." ~ Gina Ahn '09
Community Engaged Learning
Community service and community-engaged learning can be fantastic ways to develop skills, make connections with campus peers and to the greater Waltham community, and give back.
The Department of Community Service is dedicated to providing students, faculty and staff with relevant volunteer experiences that match the needs of our neighbors, as well as the the skills and interests of our student volunteers. The department seeks to establish sustainable and reciprocal partnerships with local social service, governmental, educational and cultural agencies as we advise and support community service initiatives.
As your time at Brandeis, specifically your sophomore year, is exploratory it is never too late to get involved and connected. The Department of Community Service staff and Waltham Group student coordinators are here to assist in your exploration. We believe that through intentional dialogue and reflection one will gain insight into their academic studies, career development, develope leadership skills and increase awareness of the local and global community.
