Freishtat Accessible Course Excellence in Teaching Grants (FACET)

Student Accessibility Support, in Academic Services, has received donor funds to award monetary grants to faculty to develop expertise in creating course materials that are accessible to students with disabilities. The FACET grant application is open to all full-time and part-time faculty and is being delivered as a partnership with the Center for Teaching and Learning. Accessible course materials can be read by text-to-speech software and include readings, Latte site, presentation slides, videos, and graphics.
 
Faculty may apply to take part in either of two programs:
 
FACET TIER 1 – Faculty attend all eight workshops (makeups can be scheduled) AND post an accessible course curriculum on LATTE. Faculty in Tier 1 will receive a $1,000 grant to be used by the instructor for any purpose. Posted accessible courses will be recognized in multiple ways: by the Provost’s Office, on the Brandeis website, and at a workshop on Fri. May 11, noon – 2 pm (non-mandatory workshop.)
 
FACET TIER 2 – Faculty attend all eight workshops (makeups can be scheduled.) Faculty in Tier 2 will receive a $400 grant to be used by the instructor for any purpose. Tier 2 participants will be recognized in multiple ways: by the Provost’s Office, on the Brandeis website, and at a workshop on Fri. May 11, noon – 2 pm (non-mandatory workshop.)
 
Each workshop will include resources from Student Accessibility Support, Academic Technology, and Media Technology Services in order to support accessible curriculum development. Resource staff will provide support for an additional half-hour following each workshop and by appointment. Each workshop will provide food and beverage. The program of eight one-hour workshop sessions will follow the following schedule:
1)      Overview, Word docs
2)      Word docs, PDF’s
3)      Latte sites, Latte readings
4)      Classroom presentation slides and Color Contrast
5)      Graphs, diagrams, pics – image description
6)      Digital media - third-party websites/software/devices/curriculum
7)      Audio-visual curricular elements
8)      TBD, based on need
Faculty will be chosen based on their investment in this program as well as their availability to attend the workshop sessions of one of three offered cohorts:
 
A)    Tue. 1:30 pm - Dec. 5, Jan. 16, Jan. 23, Feb. 6, Feb. 27, Mar. 13, Mar. 20, Apr. 10
B)    Wed. 10 am - Dec. 6, Jan. 17, Jan. 24, Feb. 7, Feb. 28, Mar. 14, Mar. 21, Apr. 11
C)    Wed. 1 pm - Dec. 6, Jan. 17, Jan. 24, Feb. 7, Feb. 28, Mar. 14, Mar. 21, Apr. 11
