Fefu and Her Friends
“And if [women] shall recognize each other, the world will be blown apart.”
October 19–22, 2017 | Laurie Theater
by Maria Irene Fornés
Directed by Adrianne Krstansky
Eight friends gather to rehearse a charity-fundraising presentation. With different scenic interludes, they reveal their rebellion against a patriarchal society while also illustrating their complicity within it. Featuring a diverse cast of women, Fornés’ play explores how subtle pressures work on women across the world to conform to an ideal of meekness and femininity.
