Allen Alter is a senior producer at CBS News. He has served as writer and foreign desk editor for UPI in New York from 1979 to 1982 and its Jerusalem correspondent from 1974 to 1978; CBS News producer in the Northeast bureau from 1980 to 1990; writer on “Nightwatch” in 1983; associate producer on the foreign desk in 1984; producer of CBS News’ “The Changing Face of Communism,” an award-winning 1989 series; producer for the “CBS Evening News with Dan Rather” from 1990 to 1991; deputy foreign editor for CBS News from 1991 to 1992; foreign editor and senior producer for CBS News from 1992 to 1999; deputy editor of CBS News’ 2004 Presidential Campaign Unit; and senior coordinating producer of the documentary news program “48 Hours.”

Alter received an Emmy Award in 1988. He is currently a board member and secretary of the Federation Employment and Guidance Service.

Within the Brandeis community, Alter has served as a member-at-large of the Alumni Association from 2005 to 2007; the Chair of the Marketing/Communications Committee of the Alumni Association; the 25th Reunion Gift Committee Chair; the 35th Reunion Committee Chair; the 40th Reunion Committee Member, and the Alumni National Campaign Committee from 2003 to present.

Alter received his B.A. at Brandeis University and his M.A. at the University of Sussex, England.
