Irving Schneider was cochairman and chief operating officer of Helmsley-Spear, Inc., a company he had been with for more than 50 years.
The list of Schneider's philanthropic affiliations is long. He has been chairman of International Council Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel; honorary chairman of the board, North Shore, Long Island Jewish Health System; emeritus chairman of the board, Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He is a life trustee of UJA-Federation of New York, an honorary trustee of City College Fund, trustee of Central Synagogue, trustee emeritus, Jewish Communal Fund; and former trustee of Health Insurance Plan, New York.
He is a former director of Community Council of Greater New York and United Israel Appeal, where he also served as a trustee. He is a former Board of Directors member of United Hias Service, Joint Distribution Committee; vice chairman of the Association for a Better New York; Board Member of Tele Aviv University and Museum of Jewish Heritage; and vice president of, Realty Foundation of New York.
Schneider has received several honors and awards, including the Townsend Harris Medal from The City College of New York; the Defender of the Child Award from State of Israel; and the Medal of Honor from Ellis Island.
Schneider received a B.B.A., from The City College of New York. He has received honorary degrees from Brandeis, Long Island University and Tel Aviv University.
