1999 UNet Updates

CC and CCS Visitors

Earlier this week, the passwords for a number of accounts on various machines in cs.brandeis.edu and ccs.brandeis.edu (play, volen, others) were guessed or intercepted by someone off campus who could think of nothing better to do. While nothing malicious appears to have been done, it is best to assume that any account on or accessed through those systems could have been compromised.

If you logged on to UNet from any machine in CS or CCS in the last two weeks, your password has been set to expire at the end of next week. If you do not change your password before February 19th, you will be unable to log on.

To change your password, use the P menu item, run the passwd (or password) script, or go to the web page https://unet.brandeis.edu/cgi-bin/passwd

It should go without saying that you ought to change your passwords on CS and CCS systems, preferably to something different. The command is "passwd"

As a general rule, it's a good idea to change your passphrase every few months anyway.
