VMS Cluster Upgrade -- May 1-3, 1999
The entire Central VMScluster (BINAH, DIN, and LOGOS) will be upgraded to a
new version of VMS as a result of Year 2000 compliance issues. Because of
this upgrade, the VMScluster will be unavailable from 6:00am on May 1 until
8:00am on May 3. The systems will be made available as soon as the upgrade
is complete, which may be earlier than the planned ending time.
Email addressed to users on any of the VMScluster systems will be stored
while the systems are down, and will be delivered when the upgrade is
complete.
Any desktop computers which use VMScluster machines for network services
(such as DNS) should be reconfigured to use the new UNet machines instead.
Due to changes in how Internet-style mail will be handled, users must
reconfigure mail programs (such as Eudora or Netscape Messenger) to use the
UNet systems as their "SMTP server". Technology Coordinators are
contacting users regarding these changes. Direct any questions to the ITS
Technology Coordinator appropriate for your department.
