Marianne McPherson Awarded the 2008 Phoebe and Dr. Donald Giddon Grant for Research on Women and Health
Congratulations to Marianne McPherson for receiving the 2008 Phoebe and Dr. Donald Giddon Grant for Research on Women and Health! This grant is awarded annually to the undergraduate or graduate project deemed best able to contribute new knowledge or understanding to a topic concerning women and health. Marianne is currently a PhD candidate in Social Policy. Her research project entitled "Adolescent Medicine Physicians as Reproductive Health Advocates” will explore and define adolescent medicine physicians’ advocacy activities related to adolescent reproductive health (ARH). Adolescent medicine physicians have regular contact with teenagers and are experts in the health issues at stake in ARH policy, yet physician’s voices often are limited in making policy decisions that directly affect the health and lives of adolescents. This study aims to investigate whether and how physicians are advocating for ARH policy. We look forward to hearing about Marianne's project at the WGS Joint MA commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 5:00pm in the International Lounge in Usdan.
