Jane Schlapkohl Awarded 2007-08 Richard Saber Undergraduate Research Grant

Congratulations to Jane Schlapkohl for receiving the 2007-08 Richard Saber Undergraduate Research Grant in Women’s and Gender Studies! This grant was established by Brian Saber ’84 in memory of his father and is used to support an excellent undergraduate research project. Jane is expected to graduate this spring with majors in Sociology and in Health: Science, Society, and Policy. Jane’s research project entitled “Women’s Perspectives on the Use of Epidurals during Labor” examines the medicalization of childbirth. She will conduct interviews with women to investigate how they perceive their choice in whether or not to have an epidural during their childbirth experience. She will also explore the factors that women describe as having influenced and shaped their feelings about the use of epidurals. We look forward to hearing about her project at the WGS undergraduate commencement ceremony in May.
