Board
The National Board for Women's and Gender Studies at Brandeis University was created in 1992 for the purpose of providing guidance, financial support and assistance with community relations. It consists of approximately 25 members, men and women, Brandeis alumni and non-alumni, from various regions in the country. The group meets three times a year and is led by two co-chairs.
The board has been extremely successful in raising funds to initiate new projects within the Women's and Gender Studies Program such as launching a graduate program, establishing the internship in the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children, setting up various prizes and scholarships, and completing a million dollar drive in two years for an endowed Visiting Professorship in Women's and Gender Studies and another field. Board members have 3-year renewable terms and make annual financial contributions. They are recommended by the Chair of the program and appointed by the president of the University.
Members of the board include businesswomen, philanthropists, scholars, journalists, lawyers, writers, and others. The structure is relatively informal and constantly evolving. The National Board for Women's and Gender Studies at Brandeis is responsible, in large part, for creating the conditions in which the Women's and Gender Studies Program can thrive.
