Graduate Admissions
The joint master's degree in women's and gender studies and another discipline may be pursued independently or in conjunction with a Ph.D. in one of several fields.
The first option is a joint terminal master's degree in women's and gender studies in conjunction with one of the following five fields: anthropology, English and American Literature, music, Near Eastern and Judaic studies, or sociology. This degree option may require one or two calendar years, depending on requirements in the affiliating program. Prospective students apply through one of the five home departments through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

The second option is a joint masters degree while in pursuit of a Ph.D. in one of the following nine fields: American history, anthropology, comparative history, English and American Literature, music, Near Eastern and Judaic studies, psychology, social policy,or sociology. This degree option replaces a master's degree in the student's program.
Current Brandeis Ph.D. students may pursue the Joint M.A. at any time during their graduate career with the approval of their advisor and the women's and gender studies program. Current Brandeis graduate students who wish to apply for the Joint M.A. can obtain application forms and information from the Women's and Gender Studies Program office in Rabb 120 (781) 736-3042 or by email to wgstudies@brandeis.edu.
Prospective Ph.D. students interested in pursuing a Joint M.A. must apply directly to the Ph.D. program through the home department of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, but should note their interest in the joint program in their statement of purpose.
