Academic Advising
Contact: PJ Dickson and Emily Walsh
Office of Academic Services, Usdan 130
6-3470
After the director of the Writing Program, advisers to the first-year class are your primary contact for reporting academic or personal problems you notice in the classroom. This could include excessive absence, poor quality work, plagiarism, cheating, roommate difficulties, mental and physical health issues, etc. First-year advisers receive a copy of paperwork filed for students in danger of failing, and can write letters suggesting appropriate accomodations for students who need them.

Athletics
Contact: Adam Levin
Gosman Sports and Convocation Center
6-3631
Students who are involved in athletics may provide you with a letter and schedule of away games, which may require their missing class. Writing Program policy is to count these absences as unexcused.

Bookstore
Contact: Stacey Jackson
Shapiro Campus Center
6-4272
The bookstore handles textbook orders for many UWS classes. A form is usually sent around mid-semester for the next semester's book order. Note: Some instructors prefer to place their book orders at Back Pages Books, an independently run bookstore on Moody Street in Waltham, which delivers books to your students.

Copy Center
Contact: Barry Hayes
Usdan Student Center, lower level
6-4530
The Copy Center will produce course packs at the beginning of the semester for your course. You need to assemble one clean copy of the course pack, acquire a completed Requisition Form from Shannon Hunt in the English department office (Rabb 144), bring coursepack and form to the Copy Center, and bring back the carbon copy to Shannon. Leave plenty of lead time for these to be ready for your first day of classes.

Disability Services
Contact: Beth Rodgers-Kay
Office of Academic Services, Usdan 130
6-3406
Students with a documented mobility, visual, hearing, medical, psychological or learning disability may be entitled to special accomodations in the classroom and on assignments. You should always request students with disabilities to obtain a letter from the Office of Disability Services for your records, which will advise you as to appropriate accomodations.

English as a Second Language
Contact: Nancy Nies and Kyle Wiggins
Rabb 342
6-3391
UWS is often the first place students needing English language support are identified. The ESL program offers one-on-one tutoring throughout the semester, as well as a weekly grammar tutorial at the Writing Center on Fridays from 12:45 to 3:45 p.m.
