Susanna, a student at Brandeis, opens the door and walks outside.

Voice offscreen says, “Hey Susanna, how are you?”

Susanna says, “Hi, how are you?”

Voice offscreen says, “Good. Where are you off to?”

Susanna says, “I'm off to Sherman to grab some lunch.”

Voice offscreen says, “Do you mind if we ask you some questions on the way?”

Susanna says, “Of course, of course.”

Susanna starts walking away from the building and the pond is in the background.

Voice offscreen says, “Coffee or tea?”

Susanna says, “Definitely coffee. I always go to Dunkin in the morning.”

Voice offscreen says, “What's your favorite show to stream?”

Susanna says, “I think "New Girl's" is my favorite.”

Voice offscreen says, “You're on a walk, music or a podcast?”

Susanna says, “I'm going to go with music for that one.”

Susanna turns to face the camera.

Voice offscreen says, “Where are you from originally?”

Susanna says, “I'm originally from Kansas City.”

Voice offscreen says, “Are you a Kansas City Royals fan?”

Susanna says, “Yes, definitely. I'm a huge baseball fan.”

Susanns stops for a second and then continues to walk through Massell Quad.

Voice offscreen says, “What's it like being a first-year student at Brandeis?”

Susanna stops and faces the camera. The camera gets a little bit closer to her.

Susanna says, “It's really, really great. I love the people here, and I've really found some of my best friends, so I'm going to say that it's really great to be here, be with the community, and the atmosphere of campus.”

Voice offscreen says, “What's the book you'd read again and again?”

Susanna says, “The best book I've ever read, I think, is "Beloved" by Toni Morrison. I'm going to say that's the one. I would read again and again.”

Susanna starts walking.

Voice offscreen says, “What residence hall do you live in?”

I actually live right here in Renfield, that's right behind us, in Massell Quad, so this is my home.”

Voice offscreen says, “What's your favorite season of the year?”

The camera pans around Susanna giving the viewer a broader look at Massell Quad and the pond that is in the middle of it.

Susanna says, “Fall. I love how New England looks in the fall. It's a really nice added bonus to living up here.”

Voice offscreen says, “What's your major?”

Susanna says, “I'm a business and sociology major.”

Voice offscreen says, “Your favorite class?”

Susanna says, “I think actually one of my favorite classes I'm in this semester, it's called American Judaism by Professor Jonathan Sarna. He's an absolutely phenomenal professor and the class is just fascinating. I think that's actually one of my favorite classes I've ever taken.”

Voice offscreen says, “What's your favorite spot to eat in Waltham?”

Susanna says, “I'm going to say Margaritas. It's on Moody Street. It's a Mexican restaurant and they have really good fajitas and I'm just always craving their food. That's, I think, one of my favorite spots to go.”

Voice offscreen says, “What do you do on campus?”

Susanna stops. The pond is directly behind her and Sherman is in the background.

Susanna says, “I'm involved a lot with Jewish life on campus. I'm in both Hillel and Chabad on campus. Then I'm also involved with community service some. Then I also work in admissions.”

Susanna starts walking.

Voice offscreen says, “What's your favorite road trip destination?”

Susanna says, “I would love to do a road trip up the coast of California. I think it would just be gorgeous, so I'm going to say there.”

Voice offscreen says, “When did you realize Brandeis was the school for you?”

Susanna stops walking.

Susanna says, “I applied to college in the heart of COVID, so I actually didn't get to visit the majority of my schools in person. The really great thing about Brandeis is all the admitted student events, all the virtual events, the students really wanted to get to know who I was, I wanted to get to know how I could fit into the community and that really stood out to me and drew me into Brandeis. It ended up being a really great match. So I got really lucky finding Brandeis even in the mess that was my college applications.”

Susanna starts walking again towards Sherman. The pond and other residence halls in Massell Quad are in the background.

Voice offscreen says, “Who is your dream dinner date, dead or alive?”

Susanna says, “I'm a really big Taylor Swift fan, so I think I'm going to go with her.”

Voice offscreen says, “What's your favorite concert you've ever attended?”

Susanna says, “I went to, last semester, a show for Ingrid Andress, who's a smaller country pop singer. That was a really fun show in Boston. I also went up with a few of my Brandeis friends to Harry Styles in October and that was a really, really fun show too. I think those are two of my favorite concerts.”

Voice offscreen says, “Favorite person you follow on social media?”

Susanna says, “I think my favorite Twitter account that I follow is called "Midwest versus Everything." They make memes and just jokes about being from the Midwest. It's a humor niche, but I think it's pretty funny.”

Voice offscreen says, “Favorite time of day?”

Susanna says, “I think 6:30 PM is what I'm going to say. That's when me and my friends always go to dinner, so it's a good part of the day for sure.”

Voice offscreen says, “Favorite spot on campus?”

Susanna says, “I think I really actually like the patio up by the Science Center. When you're up there, you can overlook all of lower campus. It's a really nice view up there, so I'll say there.”

Voice offscreen says, “Best thing that happened to you this year?”

Susanna says, “I'm going to say meeting everybody here on campus. I've met some of my best friends and I've gotten really lucky to find my people here at Brandeis. I think that's one of the best things that's happened to me, is just finding them and getting to know them for sure.”

Voice offscreen says, “What's an activity that you do not find fun at all?”

Susanna says, “Fishing. Don't take me fishing.”

Voice offscreen says, “If you were an ice cream flavor, what would it be?”

Susanna says, “I'm going to say Rocky Road.”

Voice offscreen says, “One piece of advice you'd tell your 17-year-old self?”

Susanna says, “Go with your gut. I know it sounds a little bit cliche, but definitely when you're 17, there's a lot of different choices you're trying to make just in life in general and also with the whole college process. At the end of the day, you really do know yourself best. You know what you're looking for, you know what you want. You know what you're trying to figure out for whatever question you're dealing with, and so I would say go with your gut. At the end of the day, you know what you want.”

Voice offscreen says, “Three things that you feel are uniquely Brandeis?”

Susanna stops walking and faces the camera.

Susanna says, “I'm going to say the Rabb steps, Springfest, and then also going to fencing tournaments. I have a lot of friends on the fencing team and I never would've gone before I came here, but me and my friend always go and support our other friends. That's, I think, something that's unique to me being here.”

Voice offscreen says, “Final question, one thing you can't live without?”

Susanna starts walking backwards as the question is asked. Sherman is directly behind Susanna.

Susanna says, “I'm going to say boba tea.”

Voice offscreen says, “I love that. Well, thank you for answering all our questions.”

Susanna says, “Yeah, of course. I'm going to walk into lunch.”

Susanns turns towards Sherman and starts walking towards the entrance.

Voice offscreen says, “Bye.”

Susanna says, “Bye.”

Susanna walks towards the door to Sherman and the video fades to black.
