Professor Yuri Doolan wins prestigious Association for Asian Studies (AAS) James B. Palais Book Prize
Associate Professor Yuri Doolan was awarded the James B. Palais Prize for his first book, The First Amerasians: Mixed Race Koreans from Camptowns to America. This book brings together the intertwined histories of camptown military prostitution in South Korea and international adoption in the United States, examines the concept of the "Amerasian" beyond its conventional associations as a racial descriptor and instead as a Cold War construct, draws on the oral histories of mixed race Koreans and their mothers, as well as archival research in Korea and the United States, and offers an intimate history of Cold War relations between occupiers and occupied.
At the Annual AAAS conference this March in Vancouver, Canada, the Chair of the Northeast Asia Council will read and present a citation to Professor Doolan during the Awards Ceremony.
Congratulations Yuri!
Eliciting the unique nostalgia of childhood and family memories, the cover reflects how individual roots and backgrounds shape an individual's worldview and values.

Student Literary Magazine: Connections
Inspired by its predecessor, Eastern Tide, this debut edition of Connections focuses on the idea of "Roots." Many of our submissions center connections to one's cultural roots, ties to family, and identity, all of which connect us from our past to our future.
