Housing Medical Accommodation Requests
Brandeis University has a policy for responding to requests for accommodation in the residence halls, based on medical, psychological or disability needs. We provide support services and reasonable accommodations to students who qualify under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Fair Housing Act. All accommodation requests must be submitted and approved annually.
If you have questions about this process or need assistance, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We accept accommodation requests at any time. However, we can only offer available spaces, so it is in the student’s best interest to follow the suggested deadlines in order to receive a placement before the general room selection or first-year housing placements. We make a strong effort to get students into housing that meets their needs, but are also located with other students from their class year and with friends.
The due date for the form varies by class year. For housing assignments in the 2020-2021 academic year the deadlines for submitting both your Request Form and Verification Form on are as follows:
- January 31: Deadline for currently housed students and students returning from abroad or a leave of absence
- February 19: Deadline to complete the Returning Student 2020 Housing Application
- May 31: Incoming first-year students
- October 15: Mid-year students
Please note that Request Forms and Verification Forms that are submitted after the above dates will receive consideration. Necessarily though, the process will be delayed and options for housing assignments are more constrained.
The Review Committee must receive both the Request Form and the Verification Form before they will review a request. Please read the instructions for each form closely.
Review Process Timeline
Requests are reviewed by the Housing Medical Accommodations Review Committee. The committee includes staff representatives from the Health Center, the Brandeis Counseling Center, Student Accessibility Support, and the Department of Community Living. When necessary, the committee may consult with staff from Facilities Services or the Office of Equal Opportunity. The committee meets bi-weekly to review requests. Below are some key dates to know for requests submitted as part of the Room Selection Process. Requests made outside of the Room Selection Process will be reviewed in a timely manner, but are subject to the availability of the committee and the volume of open requests.
