In scheduling our speakers for all our programs, we are ensuring inclusion of scholars of color and those whose work explores the experience of Jews of color and issues of race and racism. This includes speakers in our Gilda Slifka Summer Internship Program, Sandra Seltzer Silberman Conversations Program, Institute Seminar and Latin American Jewish Gender Studies Project.
Incorporating a higher proportion of this work in our programs
We have actively sought out experts in Jewish Studies and Critical Race Studies to add to the HBI Academic Advisory Committee (AAC) that evaluates applications for the HBI Research Awards.
Having an academic advisory committee with a broader range of expertise on work that deals with Jews, race and racism
We seek to identify new organizations and individuals who can share our calls for applications with diverse audiences. We will continue to explicitly state that we welcome applications that deal with subjects related to the experience of Jews of Color and use this as a relevant factor in our selection process.
Receiving a higher proportion of applications to our various programs on these topics
HBI staff have attended an OEO training regarding Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Violence and Accessibility and HBI is scheduling additional courses suited to our work. Incoming Scholars in Residence and Research Associates will participate in online DEI training as part of the onboarding process. Interns participate in discussions relating to diversity and inclusion as part of our Gilda Slifka Summer Internship.
Full participation of staff members, visiting fellows, research associates and student interns, as appropriate
