Hidden Fires

PeaceWorks' invocation as Žižekian response to the Gujarat massacres of 2002 (Calcutta, India)

By Ruth Margraff

What we are trying to do is stimulate young minds into thinking, questioning, probing pre-conceived notions and prejudices, challenging and coming up with their own answers.    -Naveen Kishore

Ruth Margraff's  chapter describes a playwright's attempt to deal with the trauma and division caused by the violence in Gujarat in 2002. The play "Hidden Fires," written by Manjula Padmanabhan and produced by Naveen Kishore, was performed in schools by artists, who also held workshops on issues like identity, prejudice, the politics of violence, and how history is written and rewritten.
