Polly Walker will be posting a workshop session at this conference on December 8 at 4:15pm titled “En-acting Narratives: Transformative Performance in the Aftermath of Violence, Documentary: Acting Together.” Her presentation will include a series of clips from the Acting Together documentary.

"Acting Together on the World Stage" Film Screening

Tel Aviv, Israel
Free and open to the public. A greeting will be given by Prof. Gady Keynar, head of the TAU Theatre Department, and an introduction will be given by Lee Perlman. There will be a reading of the play from Aida Nasrallah and Lee Perlman's chapter in Volume I of Acting Together. The film will be screened in English with Hebrew sub-titles. Cynthia Cohen will give a presentation and a panel will be moderated by Hen Alon on the topic “What can we learn from other regions and communities and what can they learn from us?” Panelists include Dr. Aida Nasrallah, Prof. Shulmaith Lev-Aladgem, Igal Ezraty, Prof. Freddie Rokem. View the event flyer in Hebrew.

The 2012 Imagining America conference is an occasion to reflect critically on the shared predicaments of democratically-oriented, cultural work in higher education and community-based organizations; to articulate languages and practices of possibility; and to develop and strengthen cross-sectoral networks committed to moving such work forward.

In the Summer of 2012, Seeds of Peace will hold its second two-week summer course for educators from the Middle East, South Asia, and United States. A Conversation with Roberto Gutiérrez Varea

Aluna Theatre and TheatreBooks present a conversation with Roberto Gutiérrez Varea, co-editor of “Acting Together: Performance and the Creative Transformation of Conflict.” His research and creative work focuses on live performance as means of resistance and peacebuilding, in the context of social conflict and state violence. Varea's stage work in the United States has focused on Latino/Chicano theatre, and directing world or west-coast premieres of works by Migdalia Cruz, Ariel Dorfman, Cherrie Moraga, and Jose Rivera (among others). He is the founding artistic director of community-based performance groups Soapstone Theatre Company and El Teatro Jornalero!, and co-founder of the San Francisco-based collective Secos & Mojados.
