Ted is the president and founder of TM Consulting Group LLC, a firm of on-site and hospitality food service management consultants specializing in Higher Education, Corporate Dining Services, Government and International Organizations, Independent Secondary Schools and Public School Districts.
Founded in 2011, TMC was quickly awarded a variety of large and small complex projects. Using Ted's experience as a senior level administrator in several academic institutions and an executive in a large international contract foodservice company he quickly forged a team experienced in strategic planning and operations with the ability to help clients translate the broad and complex needs of food services into actionable programs.
Prior to founding TMC, Ted was assistant vice president for Campus Services at Harvard University where his many responsibilities included the $110 million division of Hospitality and Dining Services, which included 30 operations, three hotels, a large catering department and the Harvard Faculty Club. While at Harvard, his department won 57 awards for operational excellence, design and concept development. In addition, he developed and implemented a 10-year Master Plan for Residential Dining, planned and implemented new concepts in a number of Harvard’s professional schools, renovated 15 facilities, and created Harvard's Food Literacy Project, an umbrella organization of students, faculty and staff that utilizes the continuing interest in sustainability, environmental issues, health and cultural traditions to strengthen the Harvard community.
Before joining Harvard, Ted oversaw ancillary services at Middlebury College, While at Middlebury, Ted developed and implemented an on-site test kitchen and certified continuing education program in conjunction with The New England Culinary Institute.
Prior to Middlebury, Ted held a number of progressively responsible positions with Sodexo, one of the largest international food service providers. His last position was as U.S. Northeast Regional Director of Operations, a seven-state area with more than 25 accounts, many with multi-unit operations.
Among Ted's many awards and speaking engagements are the 2006 Silver Plate Award as Operator of the Year, Food Management Magazine’s 2002 Leadership Award and The Chef des Chefs 2001 Innovations in Onsite Food Service Award. In 2008, Ted delivered the keynote address at the University of Tokyo's first Sustainability Conference. And in 2012, Ted was selected as a Hennessy Traveler, a program designed to evaluate U.S. Air Force base foodservices throughout the world.
Ted is an active member of the Food Service Consultants Society International (FCSI), the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS), the National Association of College Auxiliary Services (NACAS) and the Society for Hospitality and Foodservice Management (SHFM).

Before organizing Clarion, his accomplishments included:
- Founder and president of T J Mac Dermott Corp., a dining service management firm that served colleges and independent schools in the Northeast. T J Mac Dermott Corp. was recognized as one of America's fastest-growing companies by Inc. Magazine and as one of the food service industry's "best aggressive regional firms" by Restaurants & Institutions. (TJM Corp. was merged into Daka, Inc. in 1987.)
- Vice president, Daka, Inc. As vice president, Tom was responsible for corporate and educational dining service operations in a 75-account region in New England. (Daka has since been acquired by Compass Group.)
- Vice President, responsible for the Dining Service Management division of The Seiler Corp., serving colleges and independent schools in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. (The Seiler Corp. has since been acquired by Sodexo, Inc.)
Tom is a professional member of the Foodservice Consultants Society International (FCSI) and was among the first to take and pass the Society's professional competency exam. He is a member of the Society for Hospitality and Foodservice Management (SHFM), was a regional director for SHFM in New England and a member of SHFM's Benchmarking Committee, which established the Society's unique "Industry Standards and Benchmark Comparison" semi-annual study.
Tom is the publisher and editor in chief of Dining Insights, a quarterly newsletter devoted to the Onsite and Workplace Hospitality Industry with a readership of 3300. In addition, he is a frequent contributor to several industry trade magazines, including Food Management Magazine and Food Service Director.
Tom has also been a guest speaker at Food Management’s 2007 Ideas Conference and guest lecturer at Johnson & Wales University Hospitality School.
