Profile

Ann Silvio is a journalist, storyteller, and digital media executive with 20 years of experience at legacy news organizations. Most recently, she was a story coach for young producers at a news startup, and for the past decade, she was a senior producer at 60 Minutes. Silvio founded and led 60 Minutes' digital arm, an editorial team that churned out original features for digital platforms and transformed the culture of one of journalism's most respected newsrooms.

Silvio joined 60 Minutes in 2010 with the task of overhauling the broadcast's digital strategy, building a digital staff, and managing the broadcast's weekly editorial programming online. She quickly launched the ground-breaking companion show “60 Minutes Overtime” and then served as its on-air host for nearly 10 years.

Her weekly "Overtime" interviews with media executives, producers, and correspondents provided 60 Minutes viewers with a deeper, more layered view of the stories on the broadcast. These on-camera conversations featured legends of broadcast journalism, including Morley Safer, Bob Simon, Andy Rooney, Steve Kroft, Lesley Stahl, Anderson Cooper, Scott Pelley, and Oprah Winfrey. Silvio's work has been recognized by the Webby, Gracie, and Telly awards, and in 2017, she was named a Top Woman in Digital by Cynopsis Media.

Before 60 Minutes, Silvio spent a decade in print journalism. She got her start at Esquire magazine and spent 7 years at The Boston Globe. She began as research director for The Globe Magazine, moonlighting as a reporter and writer of long-form features for the daily newspaper. Silvio later co-founded the newspaper's pioneering multimedia unit. An early adopter of digital reporting methods, she launched podcasts, scouted newsroom talent, and produced some of the newspaper's first audio and video journalism. For several years, she produced video coverage of major news events, including the 2008 presidential primary. In 2009, Silvio was the executive producer of the Globe's Emmy award-winning, 7-part docuseries about the life of Ted Kennedy, featuring her interviews with Roger Mudd, Walter Mondale, and Anita Hill.

Born in Detroit, Silvio has a degree in English literature from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and she now serves on the executive board of Wallace House, a University of Michigan organization committed to excellence in journalism.
