Expertise

My field of expertise is Latin American Literature and Culture, specializing in gender studies and feminist analyses of Latin American texts. In particular, my studies focus on the literature and culture of Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile (1884 to 1930). By analyzing and critically examining literature written by and about female schoolteachers during a time of a cultural upheaval related to the expansion of public education, I provide insight into the cultural dynamics and gender roles that characterized Southern Latin American society during this period.

Profile

The trans-national and bilingual nature of my research allows me to maintain a fluid and continuous dialogue with scholars around the world, including in Latin America and especially in the South Cone (Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile). I am also a member of a research collective, Cornelias, (www.cornelias.org) affiliated to ISES (Institute of Social Studies – National University of Tucumán - CONICET – Argentina), and I regularly participate in and present at international conferences and seminars in the field of gender studies.
