Celebrating the diversity of the region
The Latin America Initiative is focused on fostering a well-networked community amongst our students, faculty and alumni. Our goal is to ensure that members of the Brandeis IBS community can capitalize on their exposure to potential career options, business networking opportunities and cultural awareness of Latin America.
In May 2015, students will visit Panama and Colombia through the Hassenfeld Fellows Overseas Immersion Program. It will be the fourth time that the program visits Latin America (the previous three trips took over 80 students to Cuba between 2012 and 2014, where they became the first U.S. delegation to visit Cuba's first-ever MBA program).
The 2015 trip will be led by Professors Aldo Musacchio and Alfonso Canella. The final deliverable of the trip will have the students divided into four teams, which will each be tasked with analyzing a challenge of the local economy (agriculture, urban development, energy and healthcare). With support from Cuidad del Saber (Panama), RutaN and Socialatom (Colombia), the teams will present consulting projects that aim to solve challenging questions that impact the region.
Student Engagement through Extracurricular Activities
On-campus student organizations, including the Latin Club and the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA), offer great social and professional networking opportunities for students.
ALPFA hosts several professional events on campus and around the Boston area, leading to improved graduate employment statistics around the Latin American region. In 2012 Brandeis IBS was one of four colleges nationally to earn a Student Chapter of the Year award at ALPFA's annual convention. Brandeis IBS was also selected to host ALPFA's sixth annual Student Summit, a career development and recruiting event for students in the Boston area.
The Global Gala is an annual event at Brandeis IBS where over 400 students, staff, faculty and alumni participate in a celebration of international diversity. Groups share elements of their cultures through song and dance performances, a global fashion show, and the highlight of the evening - the "Taste of the World" dinner!
