July 23, 2014

Brandeis International Business School (IBS) Associate Professor Daniel Bergstresser has been selected for a Fulbright Specialist project in Colombia at Universidad EAFIT in May 2015, according to the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

The Fulbright Specialist Program, created in 2000 to complement the traditional Fulbright Scholar Program, provides short-term academic opportunities (two to six weeks) to prominent US faculty and professionals to support curricular and faculty development and institutional planning at post-secondary, academic institutions around the world. Over 285,000 emerging leaders in their professional fields have received Fulbright awards, including individuals who later became heads of government, Nobel Prize winners, and leaders in education, business, journalism, the arts and other fields. Among thousands of prominent Fulbright Scholar alumni are Milton Friedman, Nobel Prize-winning economist; Alan Leshner, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS); Rita Dove, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet; and Craig Barrett, Chairman of the Board of Intel Corporation.

Dr. Bergstresser will assist with the development of EAFIT’s doctoral degree program in Economics, particularly the track in Finance.

Bergstresser received a PhD in Economics at MIT, and earned an AB at Stanford. His research has been published in sources such as the Journal of Law and Economics, the Journal of Financial Economics, The Quarterly Journal of Economics, Municipal Finance Journal and the Review of Financial Studies. Previously, he served as an investment manager for Barclays Global Investors and worked for the Federal Reserve Board in Washington D.C.  He was awarded the Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award at Brandeis IBS in 2013, and currently teaches courses in venture capital, entrepreneurial finance, and corporate finance engineering.

From July 31-August 1, Brandeis IBS and the Rosenberg Institute of Global Finance, along with Bond Buyer, will host the 2014 Municipal Finance Conference, which was pioneered by Bergstresser in 2012. The conference brings together academics, practitioners, regulators and issuers to discuss the municipal capital market.
