Students gather behind a computer.Brandeis International Business School announced today that the Master of Science in Finance (MSF), the Master of Arts in International Economics and Finance (MA), the Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA), the PhD in International Economics and Finance and two concentrations within the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs are now distinguished as STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) designated programs. Under current rules, eligible international students will therefore be able to work in the United States for up to three years after earning these degrees.

The International Business School's highly ranked graduate programs are taught by internationally known faculty members and professionals, and help to launch students' careers in innovative fields within business, economics and finance.

“Our programs specialize in new, exciting areas of empirical finance and economics, and marketing and data analytics, to give students a real advantage in the marketplace,” said Peter Petri, interim dean and the Carl J. Shapiro professor of international finance. “The STEM designation recognizes the value of these degrees and gives companies better access to the unique talents that our students offer.”

The STEM designation acknowledges the quantitative rigor of the business school’s academic programs across a number of fields including economic analysis and forecasting, statistical modeling, data analysis, financial simulation methods and more. Curricular emphasis is placed on students’ ability to understand the practical application of these areas to companies, organizations and global financial markets.

Under current rules, international students who earn a STEM degree at the International Business School can extend a 12-month post-graduate practical training experience by an additional 24 months. International Business School degrees qualifying for STEM designation include all concentrations in the MSF, MA, MSBA and PhD programs as well as the data analytics concentration within the MBA program.

Brandeis International Business School, located in the Boston suburb of Waltham, Mass., welcomes students from throughout the United States and around the world into its innovative and diverse community. The current student body includes representatives from over 40 countries.
