Dean Petri invited to become adviser on economic policy to the Bulgarian Government

October 1, 2002

Peter Petri, dean of Brandeis IBS, has accepted an invitation to become an economic adviser to the government of Bulgaria. The invitation was extended by Nikolay Vassilev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Bulgaria, during a recent visit to Brandeis.

Vassilev received the MA in International Economics and Finance at Brandeis IBS in 1997.

Petri, the Carl Shapiro Professor of International Finance, is an internationally known expert on trade, investment, and economic policy. He has consulted widely with the World Bank, the United Nations, the OECD, and national governments.

Bulgaria has made important strides in recent years in accelerating the growth of income and in transforming its economy into a modern market economy. A resident of Boston, Petri brings to that process many years of experience in economic development and international economic policy.
