Congressman Visits Brandeis IBS to Discuss Global Warming

March 21, 2007

U.S. Representative Edward Markey (D - Mass.) spoke at IBS recently regarding global warming and its impact on the environment. Markey represents the seventh district of Massachusetts in Congress, which includes Waltham.

He pointed to the recent U.N. report on global warming as a call to take dramatic action, stating "the whole world has reached scientific consensus" that a significant challenge exists in managing climate change.

The congressman shared that he drives a hybrid vehicle and urged the audience to consider taking individual steps while he pursues "meaningful legislation in the next two years," he said. Markey is in a position to effect such legislative change as he was recently appointed the head of the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. "We have a real chance to make a difference," he added.
