Prime Minister of Iceland Visits IBS

April 25, 2008

Geir Haarde '73, Prime Minister of Iceland, visited IBS recently to tour the facilities and to meet with students in an informal reception. Haarde was officially installed as prime minister of his native Iceland following the resignation of Progressive Party leader Halldor Asgrimsson. The leader of the Independence Party, he heads the government of the island nation of 300,000 people.

While at IBS, Haarde admired photos taken for a recent International Student Photo Competition and took time to meet with students. In brief remarks, he encouraged IBS graduates to pursue peace as they embark on their new careers.

Haarde, who attended Brandeis as a Wien Scholar, is the first graduate to serve as leader of a country.
