Meghna Manohar ’20, MA’21: Hey, guys. It's Meghna again. In this video, I'm going to be talking about arguably one of the most important things about a business school, our career center. Brandeis' career center is called Career Strategies and Engagement Center. There's two unique things about how our career center works. First, they pair you with a career coach that is the program leader for everyone. My career coach's name is Marcia Katz and she's in charge of all the people who are getting master's in International Economics and Finance. She's really well-versed in the different careers that people who get a master's in econ would want to go into. Prior to the start of your program, in the summer before, they often ask you for your resume and that way you'll get pre-approved, you will get all set up for those internships that have perhaps an early recruitment cycle, like the finance industry. A second really cool part of our CSE is that they're paired very closely with your faculty advisor. Oftentimes, your faculty advisor knows what classes you're taking and what you're signing up for, but they don't know what kind of careers you want. Your career advisor might know what careers you're having but not necessarily know what classes you're taking. They have a very close relationship and that way your academic success engenders career success. That's one of the most important things about what you want to get out of in a business school. Another cool thing about CSE and your career coach, in my case, Marcia Katz, is that they're also going to be your professor for a class that Brandeis makes you take your first semester, Launching Your Global Career. In this class, your career coach will tell you how to network, how to do an elevator pitch, how to email someone, how to interact with recruiters. These are really important soft skills that you're not necessarily going to get out of like a quantitative class but are definitely very important things to know. Finally, on top of our CSE having one dedicated career coach towards every program, we also have another career coach. Her name is Geri, who's just in charge of helping you do case interviews which is really big for those consulting industries and all those industries that require you to think on top of your feet. I personally used her all the time and she's fantastic. To sum it all up, I think that the Career Strategies and Engagement Center is one of the best aspects and I can't wait for you to get to know them.
