Open Positions for Research Assistant and Post-doc


Research Assistant

We are recruiting a research assistant to start summer 2019. The research assistant will help with lab administration as well as coordination of participant recruitment and data collection for behavioral and neuroimaging (fMRI) studies investigating the effects of aging on memory and decision making across cultures. The position involves outreach to recruit healthy older adult research participants in the community, experimental testing of research participants in the laboratory, designing tasks, and coordinating and organizing studies across sites with a team in Taiwan. The position also involves travel to an fMRI center in the greater Boston area.

Postdoctoral position

We are seeking a postdoctoral associate to begin work this summer/fall 2019 on a current NIA funded project. This position is designed for a talented and productive researcher who is interested instudying the intersection of memory, aging, and culture using behavioral andneuroimaging methods. This opportunity provides a transition to career independencethrough work with a rich cross-cultural dataset, the development of professional skills including student mentorship and coordination of research across sites; supervision by a faculty mentor incorporating an individual development plan in support of training goals; and publication and presentation of research findings/scholarship during the post- doc appointment period. A candidate with a PhD in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related field is required. Experience working with aging, culture, memory, neuroimaging (particularly fMRI data), and/or longitudinal data is desirable.

Welcome to Angela Gutchess's Aging, Culture, and Cognition Laboratory at Brandeis University.

Our research addresses the impact of healthy aging and cultural background on long-term memory and social cognition, using behavioral and functional MRI methods.


July 2018 -- Dr. Gutchess was invited to speak at an expert meeting on Leveraging Rarely Investigated Populations for Research on Behavioral and Social Processes in an Aging Context. Dr. Gutchess spoke on a panel about Cross-Cultural Differences in Memory.

June 2018 -- John Ksander's paper "Cultural specialization of visual cortex" was accepted to Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience. Congratulations, John!
