Meeting Employer Hiring Needs Virtually
Brandeis remains committed to helping employers engage, connect and hire for full-time, internship and volunteer positions. Recruiting remains active and vibrant at Brandeis!
The Hiatt Career Center’s campus recruiting program is now completely virtual and we recognize many of you are now using virtual operations as well. Contact us to discuss how we can best help you engage and recruit at Brandeis (at no cost) through our virtual channels, which include:
1. Posting positions in Handshake
Reach our entire undergraduate, graduate student, and alumni populations by posting full-time, internship and volunteer roles in
Handshake.
- Brandeis alumni can use this alumni form to share postings so we can tag them as being submitted by alumni and draw attention to them.
- International students who remain in the U.S. especially need your help at this time, consider volunteer roles in addition to traditional internships to provide them with career opportunities.
There are also many ways students can work or volunteer for you remotely. Consider creating micro-projects or shorter-term task-based assignments that students can help you with. Learn more about
virtual recruiting and
remote work for students.
2. Scheduling targeted resume deadlines
Actively get your position in front of interested students! Our team and ecosystem of campus partners will create targeted marketing of your position to collect resumes and send you an electronic packet of all applicants. Resume deadlines let you target your highest priority positions.
3. Hosting virtual interviews, info sessions & workshops
Use Zoom, Skype or other platforms to engage directly with students. This is the best way to continue building your brand.
4. Attend a virtual fair
Career fairs and events are held throughout the academic year for employers to connect, recruit and network with Brandeis undergraduate and graduate students as it relates to employment and career opportunities. For the fall 2021 semester, primary career fairs and most career events will be hosted virtually on Handshake.

The best way to reach a greater audience for your specific job or internship opportunities and/or events is to post them on Handshake.
In addition to reaching all undergraduates and alumni that have accounts, our employer relations team also sends out targeted job emails to students that specify industries of interest and experience. Employers are also encouraged to do their own outreach to candidates through the system using the student profile search function and engage students directly.
Other immediate recruiting options include: resume bundles, virtual office hours and career fairs.
For more strategic recruiting options, contact a member of the employer relations team.
For the spring semester, recruiting operations in partnership with Hiatt will remain virtual. Below are some options to help meet your recruiting needs:
- Fall Career Fairs: Employer registration is open for our virtual spring career fairs. View the full list and registration information.
- Information Sessions + Events: Give a stand-alone presentation to share upcoming career opportunities and deadlines as well as enhance awareness of your organization.
- Schedule Virtual Interviews: Our team can also help coordinate virtual interviews and collect resumes for organizations that choose to interview at their own site.
Remote internships have become more common in the age of COVID-19. By pivoting online, companies still have the ability to continue their programs as well as foster a pipeline to recruit talent for full-time roles. The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) offers comprehensive resources for organizations who plan on hosting virtual interns/creating virtual internship programs.
We take the health and safety of our students, partners and community seriously. Hiatt adheres to the University's policies in regards to scaling up and in-person activities. You can receive real-time updates on the COVID-19 Response: What's Now, What's Next website and check your inbox for updates from the Hiatt employer relations team. We plan on sending updates about recruiting activities and more once we have news. Be sure to have a Handshake account to receive messaging from us.
Aside from traditional recruiting activities mentioned above, we encourage employers to get creative. Some options to expand your brand to students virtually include:
- Instagram story takeovers: Take over the Hiatt Instagram account and share a day in your professional life.
Employer Instagram Takeovers are a valuable way for an organization to increase their visibility as well as engage with students and alumni as it relates to position openings, their attendance at virtual events and fairs, upcoming deadlines and other recruitment activities.
Mirroring typical in-person tabling events, Instagram takeovers are a casual and accessible way for both students to learn as well as connect. It is free for employers to participate in and typically scheduled Monday through Thursday between the hours of 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Learn more.
- Host a virtual alumni panel: Do you have a group of Brandeisians at your organization? Students appreciate hearing from alumni that are open to sharing their career paths and experiences.
- Swag/Giveaways: Work with Hiatt marketing to organize a social media giveaway by your brand/organization.
- Have a digital event: Get creative and host a digital event about your organization and advertise it on Handshake. Here are some tips via Zoom.
