Eva Horstick-Schmitt, photographer

In 2002, Eva Horstick-Schmitt took photos of a UN police raid against human traffickers in Kosovo.  ZeitOnline reported that the women were poor and came almost entirely from countries in the former Soviet Bloc. When they arrived in Kosovo, the traffickers confiscated these women's passports and imprisoned them in brothels.  If the women resisted "working," they were raped and branded with cigarettes. Their resale price was EU 3,000.

This collection was exhibited in New York City and 90 cities in Germany and Switzerland.
