How We Support Open Access

19 articles funded through the Open Access Fund, 13 faculty grants supported through Affordable and Open Access ResourcesAs the Brandeis Library celebrates Open Access Week from Oct. 21 to 27, 2019, we are highlighting some of the many ways we support open access in our services and collections.

Open Access Week is an annual international event sponsored by the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) that promotes open access to peer-reviewed work in research and scholarship.

The Brandeis Library supports open access through important initiatives. First, the Library helps to support the cost of publishing through the Brandeis Open Access Fund. The Library has paid for, or agreed to pay for, 19 articles through the Open Access Fund in the past three years.

In addition to the Open Access Fund, the Library also supports scholars by providing a platform to create their own journals. The first journal on this platform, CASTE: A Global Journal on Social Exclusion, officially released its first issue on October 15. For additional ways that the Library can support your publishing efforts, please visit our Publishing Support LibGuide.

In addition to these supports, we also want to acknowledge that Open Access is not necessarily going to look the same across all disciplines. There are circumstances where immediate openness of scholarship (including data) are not possible or ideal. The Brandeis Library is happy to work with you to protect your rights as creators, archive and protect your scholarship, and much more. If you have questions or wish to chat about any of these services, please email libpublishing@brandeis.edu.
