Alan Mintz, P’12, of New York City, the Joseph H. and Belle R. Braun Chair in Hebrew Literature at Brandeis for a decade before continuing his career at the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS), died of a heart attack on May 20 after swimming at a gym near his home on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. At both Brandeis and JTS, which he joined in 2001, he focused on Hebrew literature in America, the Nobel laureate S.Y. Agnon, and responses to the Holocaust and other historical tragedies in Hebrew literature and popular culture. Alan leaves his wife, Susanna, and daughters Amira and Avital.
