Max Chretien, Faculty, of Waltham, on July 1. An emeritus professor of computer science who taught at Brandeis for 38 years and marveled at the expansion of scientific knowledge during that time,
he loved spending time with family at his New Hampshire cottage and traveling to visit relatives in his native Basel, Switzerland. Survived by wife Dagmar and a daughter.

Violet (Parechanian) Maguire, Staff, of Waltham, on July 8. The daughter of Armenian immigrants, she worked as a secretary at Brandeis and several firms, and was active in her children’s lives as a scout leader. Survived by three children and three grandchildren.
