Christine Grienberger, assistant professor of biology, has been named a 2025 McKnight Scholar for her groundbreaking research into how the brain adapts and learns through experience — work that could lead to new insights into learning disabilities, memory disorders and recovery from brain injuries. Grienberger will receive $75,000 annually for three years from the McKnight Endowment Fund for Neuroscience.
The Pew Charitable Trusts named assistant professor of biology Yerbol Z. Kurmangaliyev to the Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences. He is among 22 early-career scientists to receive four years of funding, totaling $300,000. Kurmangaliyev’s research, which focuses on genetic principles that guide the formation of complex neural circuits, uses fruit flies to study molecular mechanisms that underlie brain development.
