The students in the class are usually sophomores. Some have already decided that they want to become elementary school teachers. Others are trying to decide on whether elementary or secondary teaching is for them or whether they want to teach at all. The course also counts as part of an education studies minor at Brandeis. The year we constructed the case there were 12 students in the class.
