Nipun Marwaha ’12 competing for Bollywood singing role

Bollywood movies inspired Nipun Marwaha ’12 to start acting, dancing and singing at a young age. He has danced with a Bhangra and Bollywood fusion dance team and studied Hindustani classical music. Under the tutelage of Guru Kinnar Seen, he is learning about the culture, history and worship of music.

This summer, Marwaha is participating in the Bollystar singing competition in hopes of winning a role in an upcoming Bollywood film.

Marwaha posted a video performance on bollystar2009.com for viewers to rate from one to five stars. After the public rating round – which ends on Tuesday, Sept. 1 – the top 10 singers will advance to round two, in which a Bollywood film director and music director will select the winner.

Watch and rate Marwaha's "Dard-e-Disco" performance.

“For the past five years I have been working toward my goal of becoming a great singer,” said Marwaha, who plans to pursue a double major in economics and business. “This competition is a chance for me to see how far I have gone.”
