Waltham Tour

Transcript

This video includes student on camera interviews as well as wider shots of places to visit in Waltham and moving shapes of different shots that come together to create a whole picture as well as on screen text.

The video begins with off camera audio. “What are you doing tonight?”

A student speaks on camera: “Tonight I’m going to go to the Arcade on Moody Street and play some air hockey with my friends.”

Feel good music follows. A montage of various scenes from the town of Waltham are accompanied by large text that reads: “Why Brandeis students love Waltham”.

The same student continues to talk off camera. “It is fun. We went there, one time last year, at the end of the semester just as a final hurrah.”

The montage of short shots found in the city of Waltham continues including a shot of the “Indian Market” and an orange Asian lantern that reads “sushi” in front of a restaurant store front.

A new Brandeis student speaks on camera in the SCC on campus. “Waltham is a good place to explore. Definitely.”

There is a quick transition shot of a civilian riding their bike down a town sidewalk on Waltham’s Moody Street.

A Brandeis student speaks on screen. “Waltham’s great.”

A view of the Waltham train tracks moves with the train with a view taken from the caboose of the train. The LED sign that updates commuters on train information appears on screen reading “Welcome”. The train tracks appear again briefly in fast motion followed by the same LED sign that reads “Brandeis” in the sign’s red lettering.

A short montage ensues including historic buildings, shots of local corn stalks, a black and white shot featuring the city center’s antique Waltham clock, a florescent lit “OPEN” sign in a store front window as well as a bobble head whose shirt reads college (actor John Belushi from “Animal House”).

A new student speaks on screen. “There’s a lot of things to do in Waltham.” A short montage ensures including visuals of a bakery and their goods, ducks in the reservoir, and spinning barbershop poles.

A new student speaks on camera: “It’s a pretty cozy little town.”

The screen shows a close up of a student walking her bike on a path. A brief timelapse of Waltham’s reservoir as well as cars driving down Moody Street and a shot of the store front “Game Underground” follows.

The screen transitions to a new shot. Four different scenes are cropped in rectangular shapes to create a whole scene. On the left side of the scene there is on screen text that reads: “Fun with friends”.

A close up shot of a kid playing air hockey at the arcade is followed by a timelapse of a large piece of street art.

A fourth student speaks on screen: “There’s always new restaurants and shops and everything.” A montage accompanied with on screen text that reads “Moody Street Shops” uses a similar design technique as before – compositing different shapes into one overall picture. In this montage the viewer can see aisles of fruits in a local grocery store, a store front window with hanging decorations, different store signs, a couple walking down the street past a thrift shop, and birds enjoying the weather at the Waltham Conservation.

The third student speaks off camera. “There are a lot of thrifting stores and my favorite shop would be Global Thrift.”

A quick montage ensues inside the Global Thrift shop showcasing clothing for sale as well as puzzles and board games.

A kayak with two people paddling in the water move quickly across the screen followed by a close up shot of people walking through the grass to transition to the next scene. The on screen text reads “Get outside” and there are three different horizontal rectangles that highlight nature (the sky, the leaves, and the grass).

The fourth student who spoke on camera returns to the screen. “There’s a lot of places around here you can go hiking.” A shot of a trail in the woods pans upwards. A biker rides down a path besides the Charles River.

The fifth student who spoke on camera returns to the screen. “It makes you feel more vivid and alive.” There are medium and close up shots of the dam at the Waltham Conservation. The second student speaks on camera. “Beautiful air out here.” A close up shot of a small dog leads you down a path in Waltham’s forest.

The screen flashes in a dip to white transitioning the viewer to our next scene. Brief flashes of different shots of Waltham appear. One shot of street art transforms to on screen text reading: “Date Night” followed by on screen text reading: “Embassy Cinema – Waltham Popcorn”. The sixth student who spoke on camera returns to speak on screen. “Embassy Cinemas is great.”

A second student speaks to the camera: “They have movies.”

The sixth student who spoke on camera returns to speak on screen. “And you can always stop and get some popcorn along the way.”

A close up shot of popcorn being scooped at Waltham Popcorn appears followed by a wide shot of their store front and sign.

A passing bus on Moody Street transitions the shot to a restaurant store front – In a Pickle. A bright flash of white transitions to another montage scene of moving shapes showcasing different shots of two restaurants – “Lizzy’s Ice cream and In a Pickle. The on screen text reads: “Treat Yourself” ” followed by on screen text reading: “Check out Lizzy’s Ice cream and In a Pickle (and much, much more)”.

The first student speaks off camera: “Oh yeah! They’re tasty.”

A short montage of clips from the city of Waltham ensue including a piece of street art on a yellow building that reads “Welcome to Waltham”, flowers and historic buildings.

A final student speaks on camera broken up by two wide shots of the Charles Museum of Industry. Student: “Waltham is the place. It’s got a beauty and it’s got a beat.”

The video fades to white and words begin to fly in to the center of the screen that highlight Waltham (e.g. arcade, shop, bike, ice cream, cinema, etc.). They come together to form the large Brandeis logo. The music cuts abruptly as does the picture before a final blooper clip appears on screen.

The first student appears and speaks on screen. “Oh! It’s very easy to get to Boston from Brandeis. There’s a commuter rail trob – trob.” (laughter) The screen fades to black bringing the video to an end.
