Why I Vote - Professor Michael Rosbash

Time: 00:01:38

An opening graphic slate appears on screen.

On the left-hand side of the graphic a portrait photograph of Michael Rosbash is seen.

Behind him a close-up image of red, white and blue "VOTE" buttons is in the background. On the right-hand side of the image in large white with a blue stroke lettering reads "WHY I VOTE" laid over a slate colored background.

The graphic then cuts to video of Michael Rosbash seated and wearing a t-shirt, he looks directly at the camera as he begins to speak:

A lower third graphic with him name and title transitions on briefly

Michael Rosbash, University Professor of Biology

Michael says, "My name is Michael Rosbash and I am a professor of biology at Brandeis University.

I won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine two and a half years ago, which

gave me some notoriety.

I vote so that our democratic institutions will survive.

Democracy requires active participation by our citizenship not to become so weak that it risks death.

In biology muscles atrophy without use and our brains cannot survive without damage for more than a few minutes without oxygen.

The civic duty of voting is, in my view, a sacred duty and to continue the analogy with biology, it is like the one all parents carry out to care for their children.

Voting serves to pass on democracy to the next generation.

Lastly, I vote to ensure that young students and scientists will continue to

have the federal support that I received, without which research and

scientific truth seeking will be hard pressed to survive."

The video then transitions out to show a white background where blue text reading "Brandeis University" fades into the screen.

A few frames later the text "go.brandeis.edu/votedeis" also fades into the screen after a few seconds the screen fades to black.
